The Cochrane Rotary Club carried out a strategic planning exercise in 2018 and discovered that one of their the top three goals was to have better engagement with the 8,000 or so Indigenous people living nearby (Stony Nakoda and Tsu Tsina). The accepted that the only museum in Cochrane was a Cowboy Museum. As a result they developed and ran an eight week education session for their club members and more than 20 officials from the City of Cochrane.

Another result was the need the need for a gathering place for indigenous people to gather or celebrate the indigenous culture in Cochrane. They are moving forward with this project and are working  to get funding for an indigenous Centre in Cochrane. The City of Cochrane has earmarked a downtown Cochrane facility for this use.

Tom Jackson has become aware of this project and has offered to support it. There will be an on-line Huron Carol fundraising event on December 19, 2021 at 6:30 PM.  Tickets can be purchased online through the website.
